Square Enix finds itself dealing with a controversial mod for Final Fantasy XIV, which is causing worry among its player base.

Square Enix is aware of the PlayerScope plugin for Final Fantasy 14, and is considering legal action after players raised concerns.

While the use of third-party tools is prohibited in Final Fantasy 14, the likes of Advanced Combat Tracker is regularly used by the game's raiding community and cross-referenced using websites like FFlogs. Yoshida's legal threat, however, is a significant step up in rhetoric.

Final Fantasy XIV players discovered that certain plugins, like PlayerScope, allow others to see each player's account ID on alt characters, which is a nightmare scenario for harassmen t and stalking. The current iteration of the Blacklist feature assigns a unique ID to each account rather than individual character IDs as before.
