Nov 29, 2022 · I had this strong gas smell inside the car. After reading here and there I decided to get a new gas filtet with rubber seal. 15 mins job. No more smell. I post here to make a reference for any one needs it in future. Mechanic told me those filters should be replaced every 40kkm.

Mar 25, 2013 · Just got my 06 cls55 back from the dealer. Same issue, bad fuel smell. Started when I filled the tank,about a month ago. Called dealer and I had to rollback the vehicle 80 miles one way to the dealer. Took 2 weeks because they ordered the wrong fuel tank. Got it back. Smells like cleaner prep solution but not gas.

Dec 5, 2021 · I also have the same problem. Fuel smell outside the car, when tank is filled. Smell goes away as soon as some of the gas is used. Someone here recommended to change the fuel pump seal, and I did. Like the factory seal was so shallow and didnt seal well. Shop confirmed that factory seal was not sealing well.

Apr 5, 2010 · I smell gas every morning and would vaporize while using it. There is a breather valve at the fuel tank that allows the vapor to come out the charcoal canister. I checked the breather valve and it was broken and that one causes the vapor to go inside the cabin. I did not smell any fuel since I replaced the fuel breather valve. Hope this helps.

Thinking nothing of it, I changed it out for an aftermarket gas cap (the OEM Mercedes cap is discontinued). Shortly after I started to smell fuel after fill up. And the P0442 came back.
