Jul 18, 2020 · 405 for deer? 5 pound iron mallet for mice? I have a 405 as done by Winchester/browning/miroku as well - the 405 flat point as told to me by the Hornady guys - was designed for the tougher stuff.. why not just load down w/cast bullets for deer?

( but of course it is not a lever ) Personally if you want to play in the 400 sandbox, I would prefer the 450/400, 404 Jeff or even the 416 Rigby. He was thinking the 405 Winchester might be a good follow up rifle for wounded game.

Unbeknownst to us, Winchester only made around 70 .405's in takedown configuration. We never shot that gun. Years later, dad converted an 1895 .30-40 Krag to .405.

Mar 8, 2012 · That .405 Winchester is one of my favorites as well. My S/S is a Winchester falling block. Sometime I will have get a photo for you fellas. Back in 1980, a tall lawyer friend of mine went to Africa with his 1895 take-down model. We were both much younger then, he is gone now and his son now owns the .405.

It isn't a Roosevelt commemorative but is similar in appearance. I applaud you for shooting it. Mine is still NIB. It would've been shot had I not purchased a Ruger No. 1 in .405 when they came out shortly thereafter:
