Oct 24, 2021 · 5GE = fake 5G (gigabit LTE) ^^ if apple can read from the modem whether LTE Advanced is in use (Carrier aggregation basically) so as to display 5Ge for AT&T users in the US, why can’t they use this same technical implementation for display “4G+” for the rest of the world when carrier aggregation is in use. Really baffles me.

Apr 4, 2020 · I assume there's another system / algorithm that determines if the speed is "Fast enough" based on where you are as to whether it uses 5G or LTE (just like back in the day, pre-5G, when LTE was less prevalent, something would determine whether to use LTE or switch to 3G because of lack of connectivity / speed).

Jun 22, 2014 · 5Ge: this is just LTE but faster (LTE-A as it is called elsewhere) 5G: true 5G but on a “low” frequency band so it won’t be socks-knocked-off fast but is still 5G. 5G+ or 5Guw: on AT&T this shows up if you are either on the c-band or mmWave bands, with no icon distinction between those two.

I get around 5 Mbps on LTE so definitely not enough.

Jan 4, 2009 · To get 5g I would have to upgrade to the new plans, lose the free showtime, and lose the free watch tv access, which saves me $100+ on a cable subscription, for $75. I’ll stick with me 140mbps down lte speeds. 5g won’t be useful anywhere around me for years to come.
