May 19, 2018 · The A1 stock had two main versions, the Type D and Type E. The Type E has a trapdoor and is compatible with the A2 trapdoor/ buttplate. The one that Brownells has is the Type D which is a solid rear stock.

Feb 7, 2023 · Unfortunately, and very suprisingly (considering how hated A2 length stocks are), traditional style A1 stock options are abysmal at best. Colt CS is the best of the best A1 style stocks but are hard to come by and significantly expensive if you do. The various repro A1 stocks are flimsy garbage and none to my knowledge are worth a damn.

May 31, 2022 · The Cav Arms stock is fine when you pop on an A2 buttplate. Becomes much more rigid. If you want the length of the A1, but don't mind a different look, I think the Vltor ARM stock is the best A1 length stock going. Use it on a couple of mine.

May 7, 2018 · I could actually wish the A1 stock was solid here so I could just drill to the necessary depth without going all the way through. I could use Type 1 and Type 2 magpul QD cups together like how it's done with the FCS stock, but with the thin wall of the A1/A2 stock, there'd be nothing for the QD cups to rest against.

Aug 4, 2020 · If you are building a retro-inspired version, then have at it. Brownells stock is a repro D type stock that is perfect for a number of clones, including M16A1s up until 1970. Beginning in 1971, they started using the E type stock (trapdoor). Fulton Armory's A1 stock is a modified version of an E type stock.

Sep 11, 2004 · I think a lot depends on your use. I am a high drag very low speed operator and prefer the A1 stock to the collapsible one. Just putting the finishing touches on a 16" midlength A1 upper and will be putting an A1 stock on the lower. Some just want the collapsible stock "just because" and more power to them and some have a genuine use for one.

Oct 4, 2005 · The only difference between an A1 and an A2 is that the A2 stock is longer, so it uses a plastic spacer between the end of the tube and the stock for length and has a longer top butt screw. The tube, buffer, and spring are all the same. So you can interchange an A1 and A2 stock on the same tube. I do it all the time.
