Well, I have a customer that has a 03 Odyssey, on there 4 alt. bracket. We have installed a aftermarket alternator, automatic tensioner, belt. My customer took to Honda yesterday they are charging him $1.000.00 to change every thing back to Honda. They advised him that parts have to be Honda. What a ripoff.

If you hear squealing sound (coolant on the belt) when first started the car, then it is indicative of water pump leaking. Water pump fix is cheaper than the gasket replacement (intake gasket for the notorious 3.4L V6, especially on GM minivan: virtually every van has this gasket problem). jt

I had it towed to the Ford dealership, all they came up with was the tensioner and serpentine, at an astronomical price to replace. So I took it to another mechanic (ASE certified) and he told me the dealership mis-diagnosed the car. He said the timing belt was broken and there is a 50/50 chance it damaged the valve(s).

I am thinking you have a 4 cylinder, so if you don't know the history, you could have a bad timing belt, or tensioner bearing, or other part that is bad. I think the timing belt is only good for about 60000 miles on your trooper. The clanking sound is usually a symptom when the hydraulic tensioner is bad. I am more familiear with the V6 though.

There are TWO bolts for the tensioner. The bolt in the adjustment slot is the first one to tighten; to set the belt tension, after the spring has pulled the belt as tight as it can. The second bolt is in the center of the tensioner wheel. It must then be tightened to lock the tensioner in the position where the adjustment was set.)

Install the drive belt tensioner bracket bolts. Tighten the drive belt tensioner bracket bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft). Connect the heater hose adapters with heater hoses to the drive belt tensioner.
