Sep 15, 2024 · the High Arctic is really cold and winds look like pushing a lot of ice into the Barents (though that ice is a candidate for later destruction), so gains in High Arctic sea ice seem on the cards. There are some regions in the Periphery that are seeing some warmth. Loss of sea ice in those areas might be enough to bring the maximum.

The Total Arctic maxima of area and extent therefore depend mostly on freezing from now on in the Peripheral Seas.
