Turns out the *plastic* valve cover is also warped and that needs replacement too. $500 for a *plastic* cover? Total damage - $1600 Oh, and there's apparently a tiny leak in the oil filter housing as well.

I have a 535I 2008. replaced the valve cover at 208K miles replaced the gasket at 96K and 185K. Replaced the cover because it started to develop leaks due to stress cracks around the fasteners.

When the valve fails, this pressure needs to escape the engine, and does so thru the weakest spot: The engine main bearing seal. The noise you hear is air "hissing" thru the seal. The PCV is built into the valve cover.

I did my valve cover also(N52 non-turbo) and the Bapmic aftermarket one was fine but like the original, uses easily stripped screwholes on either side of that gasket. i was able to use a carefully sized drill to enlarge the hole (without penetrating the cover!!) and use a larger than factory fastener to secure that gasket.

Nov 12, 2022 · Valve cover bolts 3 are hidden blind behind the engine. 2 were tucked against the fender wall. Had to use combination of mini-ratchet, extension bars, and u-joint sockets. Valve cover would not budge after all bolts loosened. After 30 mins, I got a rubber mallet and started hitting it until it broke free. Removing the valve cover sucked.

Feb 4, 2016 · Regular JB weld should work on the valve cover crack as it is rated for 550 degrees F, and I know the valve cover will NEVER even hit close to that, not even half of the 550. The extreme heat JB Weld is rated for 2400 degrees F, and is usually used on cracked exhaust manifolds and such. Just make sure you clean the surface and rough it up.
