Balboa Stadium is an outdoor stadium in San Diego, California, adjacent to San Diego High School and Balboa Park. Owned by the City of San Diego, it is leased to San Diego Unified School District. The stadium is used for local athletics and high school events.

May 24, 2012 · Balboa Stadium, on the campus of San Diego High School, was built as part of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, which was held in nearby Balboa Park. The stadium officially opened on May 31, 1915, and was originally called City Stadium, a name that stuck through 1939.

Located at San Diego High School . barely a mile from downtown San Diego, Balboa Stadium hosted auto racing from 1938 to 1961, with many future stars taking the checkered flag. Balboa Stadium pened in 1915, racing began at the facility — then known as City Stadium — with a midget card on March 7, 1938.

A high school field with concrete slab seats, Balboa Stadium witnessed the Chargers glory years and hosted the 1961, 1963, and 1965 American Football League championship games, as well as the 1961, 1962, and 1963 All-Star contests.

May 18, 2010 · A part of the original City College and San Diego High School campuses was Balboa Stadium. Built in 1914 in preparation for the Pan-California Exposition, this massive, concrete bowl hosted presidents, adventurers, pro football championships and epic music events.

The original stadium was built in 1914 as part of the 1915 Panama–California Exposition, also in Balboa Park, with a capacity of 15,000. It was designed by the Quayle Brothers architectural firm and originally called City Stadium.
