The Bank of Israel is the central bank of the State of Israel. The Bank was established in 1954. It is situated in Kiryat Ben Gurion in Jerusalem, close to the Knesset (Israel's parliament), the Supreme Court, and government ministries.

On each foreign currency business day in Israel, the Bank of Israel publishes the representative exchange rate of the shekel against foreign currencies. The representative rate is based on the rate prevailing in the market at the time it is set.

The representative rate against the US dollar is defined as the price of one dollar in shekel terms, and is calculated by the Bank of Israel on the basis of quotes by the banks during a number of hours in the day.
