A beautiful, narrow, canyon-bound lake, accessible by foot trail only, Bear Canyon Lake is one of several in a series of fishing lakes built by Arizona Game and Fish Department. Despite being several miles down a dirt road and having few amenities, it draws many visitors.

A trail along the west bank of Bear Canyon Lake can provide a few hours or a full day of scenic lakeside fishing, viewing, or hiking. The trail extends from the dam to the head of the lake with 2 access trails down to the lake from the parking lots.

There are an additional two lakes, Bear Canyon Reservoir, and Bill Evans Lake located adjacent to the forest that are leased by the NMDGF where the public is welcome to fish.
