Aug 9, 2009 · The melonite finish is several microns deep and harder than chrome plating. Might be that you marks are not scratches but deposits of gold left by the ring, much like brass marks left after rubing a brass case on the slide. A nylon brush and bore solvent will remove them. +1 on the solvent and bristle brush.
