BoA was my Jpop to Kpop gateways back in the day! The other being Younha. I'm happy both have had a return to the limelight in the past 2 years. Great time as a fan! Aug 29, 2021 · I jumped into kpop in 1997 and later followed BoA's debut. BoA was huge. At the time, Kpop wasn't that big and virtually only a domestic thing. The domestic market was small at the time and couldn't really sustain that many artists and groups. BoA debuted in Korea and did moderately well with her debut album, but it wasn't enough.

Yea the "not dated" part was the important distinction I was trying to make. I've heard other artists from even second gen or third that either try to make modern sounding kpop and lose what made them unique or they sound super dated because they don't evolve their sounds at all. BoA is just on a different level and always has been.
