Dec 10, 2022 · Most boxwood are fine and mine sit outside here in zone 6. Small boxwood in small pots get protected either heeled in or in a coldframe. My Kingsville are all in coldframes. As to watering in winter. Watering is obviously not needed as much as during the growing season but it is imperative that the roots don't freeze dry.

Mar 11, 2018 · Just throwing this out there. If you Google Boxwood Bonsai you find most of them are in deeper pots like Azaleas are. I have been using deeper pots for several years now and haven't had any issues like I did when everyone was telling me to put them in shallow pots. Kingsville seems to be at least one exception.

Feb 4, 2015 · Boxwood has the advantage of having no well-defined "natural" shape, so you can go pretty much in any direction with them. One well-known Japanese who moved here (USA) many years ago builds boxwoods along the lines of many old junipers we've all seen -- complete with copious deadwood.

Kingsville Boxwood Care - Bonsai Nut
Aug 4, 2024 · Buxus Harlandii (Harland's boxwood) isn't really a tropical. It's hardy to USDA zone 7-9, which could be called "Southern U.S.." for the most part. It's listed as "marginally winter hardy in Zone 7." They can take freezing, but not a deep freeze. They're more delicate as bonsai. I don't recommend them. Indoors, they don't do very well.

Jun 12, 2021 · The location of tie wires indicates the roots may have all been cut off, without the care to even clean the base of stuff that will wreck a boxwood base round here. Seems this is purchasing poor work. That was a $20 nursery boxwood in the spring of 2020 that wouldn't have been worth that purchase IMO.
