Cal - Reputation of Quality - SailNet Community
Aug 25, 2009 · Thanks for the feedback. I've now been on two Cal 28's (both '86s), 2 Ericson 28's (an '86 and '87) and a Pearson 28 ('87). Looking at a '78 Sabre this weekend but having trouble finding a Tartan very close by. The condition of the Cal's has been exceptional. Almost like new. I appreciate the room in the cabin as a result of moving the head aft.

Jun 18, 2008 · Cal 28-2 Hi Gang, I'm another Cal 28-2 owner. I'm located in Connecticut and sail Long Island Sound and points east.. My racing days are mostly in the past, back when I was a partner on a Santana 30 that we raced extensively. I've had my 1896 Cal, Nauti-Dog, for 3 years now and I'm very happy with her performance.
Cal 28, Worth the Price? - SailNet Community
May 3, 2011 · THe Cal 28 is a nice racer/cruiser and I would consider that price a reasonable asking price for one in good condition...you can only find out how firm the price actually is by making an offer. Tanley bought one of these in 2009 and he seems to have been happy as a clam since, you might try PMing him to discuss Cal 28 values.

Leak on a 28-2 - SailNet Community
Oct 5, 2010 · We bought an '87 last fall. In the process, we looked at 6 different Cal 28-2's and there are a couple of spots that consistently showed water penetration (looked at model years 86, 87 and 89). The first is the quarter berth area, all the boats we …
Caliber 28 Stability - SailNet Community
Mar 13, 2004 · A moderate displacement 28 footer would be somewhere around 5500-6000 lbs. My last boat was a 4100 lb 28 foot performance cruiser. So if anything at 7200 lbs the Caliber is on the stoggy side of the weight range. While 10''-10" is on the beamy side for a 28 footer, this beam is carried at the deck, and not so much at the waterline.
28 footer recommendations (Pearson 28-2 equivalents?) - SailNet …
Sep 1, 2007 · Cal 28 II The Cal 2 II is a nice design, with a particularly open and spacious interior, sails very well, rates a little faster than the P28 2 (177 versus 180), but will cost a s much, perhaps more than a Pearson. If you want a nice well-built design, you will need to pay the $$$.
