May 13, 2020 · The quiz log shouldn’t be used as the only evidence. If your Wi-Fi blips or the page falls asleep (which some browsers do), Canvas says you stopped viewing the page (because for all it knows, you did). If they have the quiz log and you in a GroupMe posting answers or something, then it’s a violation, but the log alone shouldn’t be enough.
Can Canvas tell if you do splitscreen during an quiz or exam?
Canvas is open source so you can actually check. If you check out the quiz log history you’ll see the two major ‘cheating’ countermeasures are inactivity and and window/tab selection. It cannot tell that you specifically split screen. It can however monitor that you clicked away from the window or to another tab.

Mar 12, 2020 · My professor uses canvas for quizzes/tests and I recently found out that he suspects me of cheating. (Which I totally am cheating) I found this out because I would click off of canvas and into another Google page to search the answers. When I did this a few times he would make a b-line to the back of the class and stare at me while I took the exam.

Feb 7, 2018 · Canvas quiz logs could certainly be used as a tool for faculty to initiate a conversation about academic integrity concerns, but I'd be surprised (and somewhat concerned) if responsibility for a violation was determined just on the quiz log.

Nov 13, 2020 · My quiz is open notes/book allowed but my professor just freaked out the entire class by saying test auditing is now turned on and they can see when we leave the quiz page, and that cheating is a violation and we’ll be given a 0 in the course blah blah etc. However, our book is online, as well as our notes (google docs).

The "action log" is opt-in and super barebones.It can see when you read a question (go onto a page with the question,) answer it, and when you stop viewing a quiz, which is defined in the documentation "closing the tab, opening a new tab, or navigating to a different program," and resuming viewing it.

Actually professors can see if you leave the canvas page. I’m currently a TA and I just checked a quiz submission and I’m able to see it. However, even though they have the capability, I highly doubt a professor will manually check every student to see if they left canvas.
