  1. CNC Machining | BT40 Vs Cat40 - BT40 Vs Cat40 | Practical Machinist

Dec 11, 2005 · On a BT 40 holder, key slot depth is .881" from centerline for both keys. On a CAT 40 holder, one key depth from centerline is .888" and the other is .983". If a "CAT 40" tool does not exhibit this characteristic then it is does not actually meet the proper spec for this type of tool.

  2. What is the difference between BT and CAT 40 tooling?

Dec 19, 2009 · Parker, The major difference is in the tool changer ring detail. If you wanted to use BT40 in a machine that is built to use CAT tooling, the gripping device of the tool changer arm and the sometimes the pots of the magazine, if its a tool indexing arm type tool changer, or the gripping device of a carousel type tool changer, have to be modified.

  3. CAT 40 to DIN 69871 conversion - Practical Machinist

Dec 13, 2012 · DIN 69871 holders (often referred to as SK40) which are needed for Maho automatic tool changers are the same as CAT 40 except for the pull stud thread (M16 vs. 5/8-11) and the locating notch (see SK DIN 69871). I have found little to no DIN 69871 holders in the USA, but I already have a lot of CAT 40 holders.

  4. Anyone have the spec for cat 40? - Practical Machinist

Jan 26, 2005 · I have a dummy tool in the umbrella tool changer that the machine brings up at the beggining part of the tool sequence. I have an M0 to manually change it, then at the end of the tool I have another M0 to change back to the dummy. The machine is a 1991 Mazak VTC-41. The last batch of inducing tool holders I bought, I paid $55 each for 3 of them.

  5. CNC Machining | best cat 40 tool holders - Practical Machinist

Jan 8, 2010 · I don't know about that. I recently checked a brand new Parlec CAT40 ER16 collet chuck against a well-used 3-year-old one sold by Mari tool. The Parlec had .0003" of runout, the one from Mari Tool could barely show that the Interapid 312B-4 indicator's point was in contact with the taper on the holder. Less than .0001" was detectable.

  6. CNC Machining | Cat 40 Tool Holders - Practical Machinist

Jan 12, 2013 · Yes our tool holders are made in the USA. Our collets are not. I don't think anyone makes ER collets in the states. Also we are making dual contact tool holders. So please check that out. We dont have the variety like the normal CAT40 tool holders but as production allows we will be increasing our dual contact variety as time goes on. Fk,

  7. best CAT 40 tooholder stand - Practical Machinist

Jan 8, 2010 · +1 We made all ours, and they are BEEFY! Quick n Easy, especially if you have a lathe and a welder. bottom plate bolts to table, weld a tapered bore piece of round stock to that plate, then weld a tang to keep the holder from spinning when you tighten or loosed your collets.

  8. Fixing CAT40 tool holder from internal damage - Practical Machinist

May 13, 2010 · Hand turning the tool holder while gripping the shank of the tool in the vise usually deals with the burrs without making any more metal come off than has to. Dirty, but fast. Anyway. It's a fast, nearly free fix. A toolmakers style reamer (round stock with a diagonal flat on it) would work as well, or better, if you have one the right size.

  9. General | CAT40 Big PLus - Practical Machinist

Jan 27, 2019 · You can use standard CAT holders in Big Plus spindles, but the MTB's usually say don't mix-and-match, because there is a risk that a chip can get between the holder and the spindle nose with a standard CAT. Then you do a tool change and the chip can get squashed between the spindle nose and the Big Plus holder.

  10. Difference Between CAT 40 and BT 40 Taper? - Practical Machinist

Feb 17, 2005 · As stated in a previous post the tapers are exactly the same for a Cat and a BT tool holder. The Cat has 5/8-11 draw bar/pull stud threads and the BT has a 16mm thread. The drive key notches on a BT have the same depth side to side, while the Cat tool holders have an offset slot depth arrangement.
