That's why they are found on working man's knives like the stockman and trapper patterns. "Bowie knives" typically have some sort of clip point because, according to tradition, Jim Bowie's famous knife had large clip point blade.

Feb 12, 2010 · for a given bevel angle on the upswept portion of the edge, a clip point has a thinner exposed spine than a drop point. however, it has a better blunt-side (edge-down) penetration when stabbing. regarding field dressing and butchering, i honestly don't see any advantages a drop point might have over a good and sharp clip point.

Oct 2, 2019 · The only knives I ever sharpen were Victorinox and a Higonokami japanese knife (pretty straightforward as you just have to keep the blade flat on the stone). I'm using Japanese 800 / 6000 whetstone. The problem I have is to sharpen the end of the blades. The sheepfoot is easy as it is straight but I can't get the tip of my clip point sharp.

Jan 23, 2011 · Drop point seems to be able to do everything well without really being bad at something. Tantos apparently have a stronger tip because of the 2nd grind starting higher up. I don't really like tantos that much because it kind of scares people. Clip points have so many different variants but i guess it can stab better. Finer tip
