Gas dynamic laser - Wikipedia
A gas dynamic laser (GDL) is a laser based on differences in relaxation velocities of molecular vibrational states. The lasing medium gas has such properties that an energetically lower vibrational state relaxes faster than a higher vibrational state, and so a population inversion is achieved in a particular time.
Laser History - Gasdynamic
gas dynamic laser In 1962 Basov and Oraevskii proposed that rapid cooling could produce population inversions in molecular systems. A few years later others suggested that this could be accomplished by expansion of a hot gas through a supersonic nozzle.
Gasdynamic Lasers - laserstars.org
According to Anderson (1976) gas dynamic lasers are first cousins to rocket engines. They also share design similarities with supersonic wind tunnels . In rocket nozzles, aerodynamicists work hard to create equilibrium flows so as to obtain maximum specific impulse; on the other hand in a laser, all possible efforts are made to produce a highly ...
Molecular gas lasers are the most promising sources of high-efficiency, high-energy coherent radiation. The chemical laser, which can produce radiation with little or no external excitation energy, has begun to emerge as an important class of laser systems. and the details of its molecular structure are well established.

Gas-dynamic laser enters pulse-periodic mode
Jul 31, 2004 · A group of laser researchers led by Victor Apollonov at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS; Moscow) has developed a modification to high-power wide-aperture gas lasers that allows emission in a high-frequency pulse-periodic mode in which very short pulses are produced at a high rate without a sacrifice in average power. 1 The improvement can ...
Combustion-driven CO2-gas dynamic lasers: the story may be …
The first purpose of combustion-driven carbon-dioxide-gas- dynamic lasers (GDL) was military applications. Just these applications aimed to development of more and more powerful systems led to the appearance of more and more expensive lasers using very dangerous and poison fuels.
