The Grinling Gibbons Tercentenary Award in wood and stone is a national competition for emerging craftspeople and carvers that is being held as part of the 300 th anniversary commemorations of Britain’s greatest master carver.

The Grinling Gibbons Society’s aim is to help the nation celebrate Gibbons’ extraordinary impact on Britain’s heritage across the passage of 300 years. We want to inspire learning and debate, making and research, enabling audiences to have the opportunity to see Gibbons’ work either for the first time or in new ways with new perspectives.

Dalkeith Palace is set to open its doors for Art and Ornament, April 15 to 18, an exhibition celebrating 300 years of Master Carver Grinling Gibbons. Art and Ornament is a collaboration with Master Carvers’ Association and friends, to commemorate and celebrate the legendary Baroque Master, Grinling Gibbons.

Nothing can be finer than the magnificent marble work and architecture at the end, where are four statues, representing St. John, St. Peter, St. Paul, and the Church, in white marble, the work of Mr. Gibbons, with all the carving and pillars of exquisite art and great cost.

In this grand finale event for GG300, join us as our panel of three leading Dutch art-historians pay tribute to Rotterdam-born Grinling Gibbons’ roots in this masterclass exploring the Netherlandish artistic and cultural currents that flowed to Baroque England through Gibbons and his Anglo-Dutch artist contemporaries alike.
