IB Math AA vs AI? - College Confidential Forums
Jan 7, 2019 · For the class of 2021 onwards, IB has split Mathematics into AA and AI, both available in HL and SL. Does anyone have any knowledge about how these differ? My school hasn’t explained anything about this change yet and I’m choosing my IB subjects next week!

Feb 23, 2021 · Hi, I’m currently choosing my IB courses and I was wondering if T10 colleges would see HL Math AI as a waste of an HL (our school only lets us take 3 HLs out of 6 IB courses for the diploma program). Would it make more sense to take SL Math AA and another HL. I don’t want to take HL Math AA. I also want to keep my options open for engineering.

The only reason why I’m worrying so early is because my counselor claimed IB Math SL and Calculus AB were basically the same, but I’m doing Law of Sines and graphing histograms in SL whereas in Calculus AB I’m learning about derivatives.

As far as I know, IB Math AA HL in my school is co-seated with AP Calculus BC (meaning both the AP kids and IB HL kids sit in the same class and take the AP exam in May), so the prerequisite is to take Precalculus in sophomore year.
