Japi or Headgear wich is used to originally protective headgear woven out of bamboo and palm leaves worn by farmers as protection against sun and rain. Mostly farmers and cowherds use Japi in ancient days as used both as a hat and an umbrella.

Jaapi is one of those few names which any person from Assam think of when it comes to Assamese culture. Over the course of time Jappi has found it's own way from paddy fields to the aristocratic drawing rooms.
