Anne Waiguru was elected Governor of Kirinyaga County for the first time in 2017, making her one of the only 3 women governors in the country. She developed a sessional paper for the county stipulating a 15-year visionary agenda titled the Mountain Cities Blueprint.

The Kirinyaga County Annual Development Plan for the FY 2024/2025 was prepared in accordance with Article 220(2) of the Constitution of Kenya and section 126 of the Public Finance Management Act, 2012. It contains priority development programmes and projects that have been identified for implementation during the FY 2024/25.
