Lowden's A-bracing 'or 'Dolphin Bracing') is a variation on X-bracing, with the strut between the fingerboard and soundhole replaced by two diagonal braces which splay outward. 'Dolphin' refers to the ultra-thin scalloped braces which give Lowden guitars their enormous depth and volume.

Dec 14, 2011 · The primary difference of this design over the traditional "X" patterns is the use of super light weight thin/tallish "Dolphin" bracing and the pin-less bridge. Also and this is important, part of the magic of the "Lowden" sound is that much of the music we hear is played using some sort of open tuning -- mostly DADGAD

Jun 26, 2015 · A small cedar top could be so thick as to need almost no bracing below the soundhole, and a large mahogany or koa top should be super thin with stiff bracing. With small guitars, the challenge is getting low frequency response.
