Lars Ulrich (/ ˈʊlrɪk / ⓘ; Danish: [ˈlɑːs ˈulˀʁek]; born 26 December 1963) is a Danish [1][2] musician who is the drummer and a founding member of American heavy metal band Metallica.

Metallica was formed in Los Angeles in late 1981 when Danish drummer Lars Ulrich placed an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper, The Recycler, which read, "Drummer looking for other metal musicians to jam with Tygers of Pan Tang, Diamond Head and Iron Maiden." [7]

Metallica stands as one of the most influential and commercially successful bands in the history of heavy metal. The band was founded by James Hetfield (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Lars Ulrich (drums) after Ulrich posted an ad in a local newspaper.
