The National Board offers the Certificate of Authorization and R symbol stamp for the repair and/or alteration of boilers, pressure vessels, and other pressure-retaining items. Requirements are described in NB-415, Accreditation of R Repair Organizations .

Authorized repair organizations are issued an NBBI stamp that is applied to the equipment nameplate. The stamp signifies strict repair and/or alteration requirements have been met and verified by an NBBI Commissioned Inspector.

Repair organizations holding an active National Board Certificates of Authorization for use of either the R, VR, or NR stamps; and/or Pressure relief valve testing organizations holding an active National Board Certificate of Authorization for use of the T/O Certification Mark.

ASME writes the standards for pressurized vessels. These standards are accepted just about everywhere in Canada and the United States.
