So, it’s always a light hearted joke that Sweet Potato pie is eaten by black people and they don’t eat pumpkin pie. Me, a black person, loves pumpkin pie. Im not opposed to sweet potato pie but it’s not my favorite. In fact i’ll choose apple or cherry pie over it. Whenever I went to holiday gatherings with family, my non black side is always serving pumpkin pie. As they should …

I didn't set out to make a purple sweet potato pie - I just found them at a farmer's market and was going to just roast them but thought they might not do too well since they're drier than a regular sweet potato, and thought I'd do something fun instead. Dec 9, 2022 · I've found purple and white fleshed Asian sweet potatoes cook up about the same. At least with the purple sweet potatoes I had access to in Japan. I prep Asian sweet potatoes a few different ways. You can mash them - go heavy on the butter and add old bay seasoning if you've got it. They're good baked in the oven then made into a sweet potato pie.

Nov 20, 2021 · Meringue on purple sweet potato makes perfect sense since the sweet potato isn’t actually all that sweet. That’s why most citrus or cranberry tarts/pies use meringue to balance the tart/mild flavor but pumpkin is already pretty sweet so the silky light whipped cream goes a bit better in my opinion.

Anyone else a purple potato enthusiast? Any recipes or preparation techniques you recommend? I would be curious to bake it into a pie for thanksgiving!
