After a try or two they figure out that they need to backup to move towards the treat, and I then reward that. Repeat a few times, then you can start holding the lure further from the barrel and letting go of the barrel (so that the rat is controlling it themselves).

Mar 1, 2023 · marking is different than straight up peeing. they're always gonna mark; little dribbles here and there. litter training rats is mostly for poops. but you can encourage them to pee on a smooth stone in their litterbox to keep the tank empty, so to speak.
