Gears are a relic from an era of Roblox that doesn't exist anymore, 2009 - 2015 were when gears were relatively good. R15 and FE essentially broke gears after they were introduced and instead of trying to fix the gears they just killed them off. So tldr; Gears had a use but broke down further and further with updates to the engine.
