The Sámi (/ ˈsɑːmi / SAH-mee; also spelled Sami or Saami) are the traditionally Sámi -speaking indigenous people inhabiting the region of Sápmi, which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and of the Kola Peninsula in Russia.

They have lived in the region most often known as Lapland, today called Sapmi or Samiland, since prehistoric times. Sápmi, the land of the Sámi, holds a richness of tradition, religion, knowledge and culture that is similar to other indigenous people – to some extent – but at the same time very unique. Sápmi covers four countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
