Feb 29, 2016 · Camps rent by the week or with an annual pass, but Tuesday and Wednesday are free. Weekday in October there were about a dozen ORV rigs and 3 dozen dune buggies zipping around the trails and mountain. We camped just inside the gate and far away from the action. Entertaining but noisy. Expect loud fireworks after dark. Glad the dogs were put up.

Sand Mountain Recreation Area is a 4,795 acre designated OHV Fee site. The dunes are approximately 3 miles long and 1 mile wide. The approximately 600-foot high sand dune is the largest in Nevada and provides an ever-changing landscape for off-road motorists of all-types. Open OHV use on un-vegetated sand areas is allowed.
