The Tin Can Tourists were organized at Desoto Park, Tampa, Florida, in 1919. They received the official state charter a year later. The groups stated objective was “to unite fraternally all autocampers”.

Feb 1, 2016 · Former St. Pete mayor Al Lang had an axe to grind with the Tin Can Tourists and referred to the 1920 campers as “undesirables” and criticized them for starting a grocery store on city property, in competition with local merchants.

The Tin Can Tourists list our official events and allow other vintage trailer clubs or individual to add events to our community listing of events.

By the end of the year, fifty members were accepted as charter members of the renewed version of the Tin Can Tourists. The group has grown steadily, currently holding Annual Gatherings in Michigan, Florida, and regional rallies at various locations in the US.

There is a dump station on site for all members to use. This year we will also have additional port-o-lets for the dry camping area, sites furthest from the bathrooms, and close to the pavilion. We are also working on the possibility of having Golf Cart rentals for members, but more details will be sent out if these options can be secured.

The Tin Can Tourists provides many resources for the community including free classifieds, information on insurance and restoration resources.
