Richard Anthony Crispian Francis Prew Hope-Weston (11 July 1940 [1] – 6 March 2005), known professionally as Tommy Vance, was an English radio broadcaster. He was an important factor in the rise of the new wave of British heavy metal, along with London-based disc jockey Neal Kay, in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

His helming of the Friday Rock Show (1978-1993) on BBC Radio One in the UK provided virtually the only outlet for rock and metal in the early 1980s, and his deep, rich voice became one of the most recognisable on British radio. He died of a stroke on 06 March 2005: Radio 1 repeated his last ever FRS from 1993 as part of a tribute.

Tommy Vance passed away on Sunday 6th March 2005 following a stroke. His funeral was held at a packed Golders Green, London crematorium on 15th March.
