From this reunion the USS John R. Craig Reunion Association was born. Since then we have had 28 reunions all over the country. The Association held it's 28th and final reunion in Bloomington, MN.

While supporting ARVN and American units close to the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone, the USS John R. Craig took North Vietnamese artillery fire, using 105 mm howitzers captured from the ARVN. Hundreds of artillery shells fell around her and she was struck by numerous fragments as well as five direct hits which started several fires.

USS John R. Craig DD885 - History 1945 - 1980: The ship was named in honor of a Lieutenant Commander John Rich Craig who was the commander of the USS Grampus SS-207, a submarine lost in the southwest Pacific during World War 2.

Craig was awarded Vietnam Service Medals for participation in the following actions. The Vietnam Defense Campaign between 8 March and 24 December 1965. The Vietnamese Counteroffensive between 25 December 1965 and 30 June 1966.

Lieutenant Commander John Rich Craig, USN: Lieutenant Commander John Rich Craig was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 3, 1906. He attended grade schools in Jacksonville and the Duval High School, then entered the U. S. Naval Academy from Florida in 1926.

The Board of Directors of the USS John R. Craig DD-885 Association has voted to entrust our ships history collection to the complete custody of Rich Angelini and the USS Kennedy. The artifacts of our collection will be put on display in the Burk National Destroyer Museum to honor the USS John R. Craig and her crew.
