The best solution I've found is a cable clip that lets you hook the HMD cable to your waist. There are a few models on Thingiverse if you have access to a 3D printer. The clip puts most of the weight of the cable on your belt instead of your head, reduces wear at the HMD connection, and helps keeps the cable out of your way as you turn around.
