
What is a good typing speed for people who have plenty of
May 22, 2022 · If you google "what is a good typing speed", the results seem quite low. Apparently the average typing speed is somewhere around 40WPM. These websites claim that "60 or 80wpm is good". I think the problem is that the average is brought down so low by older folks who didn't grow up with a computer and don't know how to touch type.

My usual speed is around 70~90 wpm, which is sufficient for most of my needs (programming doesn't actually require fast typing speeds). Being able to type as quickly as you can think is good for getting a rough draft of an essay down, because you can type a few fragments and then go "<fill in details about X event>".

I was asking because online i can see that about 35 is conciderd good. But programmer tend to type alot more then most people on their computer.

What's considered a 'professional' WPM typing speed in 2021 vs
For office work in 2021 I think you could get by with 60 wpm. That would not be your personal best. That would be your average speed over the long term. That might sound low but it comes with conditions. You never have less than 96% accuracy. You can maintain that 60 wpm average speed for a minimum of 5 minutes without stopping.

Dec 5, 2021 · 95% accuracy is okay, tbh. Let's say that you type at 100 wpm with 95 acc, you would hit ctrl+backspace every 20 words in 60s. At 120 wpm, you would hit that almost every 25 words or almost every 12s. Though, I don't think you can have 95% acc at 100+ wpm. I believe on its own, it will reach between 97-99% on its own at this speed.

Jan 9, 2024 · For a long time, I was comfortable typing around 60-75 wpm. After practicing typing tests regularly, I was able to train myself to reach 80-90+ WPM, even hitting 100 WPM a few times. However, after I stopped the typing practice drills and went back to my normal workflow, I found myself settling back into a pace of 70-85+ WPM comfortably.

Where it says that the average reading speed is 300 wpm. I'm a reasonably intelligent person and very used to reading. Doing the reading test I read at 208 words per minute, and I don't see how anyone could read faster than that while actually understanding what is being said. Google says the average speed is 250 wpm.

On my very worst days where I'm not able to focus as well, my typing speed almost never drops below 120 wpm no matter what I'm doing, whether that's composing emails at work or playing on TypeRacer.
