May 16, 2013 · MKap. 490 posts · Joined 2010. #14 · Jun 3, 2013. I always use Woodscapes on siding. It sprays and lays nice and and never had an issue with it. I think my price on it is more than fair and get it for less than the BM stain. I have never used the BM solid stain on siding.

Jul 10, 2020 · Wet the wood w a micro fiber rag to raise the grain. Let it dry to touch. Applied a dry brush of old masters gel stain. Let dry and locked in w lacquer sanding sealer light coat. Applied another darker coat of dry brush gel stain. Let dry and locked in lightly again. Applied 2 coats oil poly sand between coats.

It truly saved me, as the standard penetrating stains would not get the wood dark enough to please the customer no matter what I tried. The gel stain allowed me to apply a couple of times to get it to the right tone.

May 12, 2013 · We use a wash coat on the fir as a pre-stain. After it dries, we sand with 280 or 320 before we start staining. Depending on the color, we may have to "sneak up" on the final color with several steps: gel stain/another seal coat/toner/ finish. In some cases, we even do a aniline dye-stain before the wash coat.

From my experience the biggest thing is that a solid stain will show more of the texture of a shingle where a paint will cover quite a bit of the texture. Oil based (alkyd) solid stains used to be the go to on rough sawn shingles and oil (alkyd) primer and paint was for smooth shingles.

Let it sit for about 5 mins. Lightly wipe with a cotten cloth and then dry brushed to a desired look. I then applied 2 coats of Saman Polyurethane Clear.

For interior, I'm of the opinion that any stain you're well versed in and can accomplish a consistent, repeatable, professional finish, then that's the best stain to use.
