Jul 6, 2017 · The FT-891 has NO internal tuner, and also doesn't give you much choice for an automatic tuner (yet). This is something to consider, given that the FT-450D does offer a basic antenna matching (tuner) device. The FT-891 is a newer rig, and it will likely take time for companies such as LDG to come out with a dedicated 3rd-party tuner.

Jul 6, 2017 · The FT-891 receives at 1 amp (almost identical to the 857). Transmit is a little higher than the 857, but not a lot. They are pretty similar. Neither are as efficient as a FT-817, but are also 100w radios. This was mentioned in the original article. Please read it before posting false generalizations. Jul 2, 2018 · The recent release of the warmed-over FT-817 is evidence of that. Plus, if you look at where the FT-891 sits in the Yaesu line-up you realize that an improved version with more features is a threat to both the FT-857 and to the FT-991A. Before Yaesu can get serious about upgrading the FT-891 platform they first need to kill off the FT-857.

May 21, 2018 · The "new" FT-818ND in meantime ? Flex understood that the older hams want the buttons and knobs so they did it. First with external console Maestro (at the price of a lower priced rigs...) then added it basically to the new range as M version so the rigs got taller to fit that console together.

Jul 6, 2017 · Yaesu HQ in Japan told me they are aware of the clicking problem. Yaesu told me they have no fix for the problem. Worse yet, Yaesu has no technical bulletin officially admitting there is a problem. Japan HQ was completely non-responsive to my requests for discussion or a fix (these were passed along multiple times to HQ by Yaesu repair).

Nov 14, 2016 · Okay, so the ft-891 current drain is roughly double the ft-857D. So I wonder how much that is affected by the display backlight setting and whether the ft-891 is readable in the daytime outdoors with the backlight off (if the screen in angled correctly in regards to the sun). I think most TFT screens are daylight readable without the backlight.

Mar 13, 2018 · Having owned the Yaesu FT-857, and 897 in past years, the current specs for the 891, seemed somewhat off- In fact, I wondered if Yaesu simply published "worst case" numbers on the site, without bothering to publish a range of numbers which would make more sense to potential buyers.

Jul 6, 2017 · For a portable/mobile rig ft-891 is very nice and still 100w. For home for sure look for something with better ergonomics and all relatively new rigs will do the job better. I upgraded ic-7300 to ftdx-101d and I can’t tell I like everything more than on that small and quite cheap Icom.
