Mar 16, 2020 · The XT225 hit the market in 1986, powered by a 223 cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine, with two-valve SOHC top end. Not very impressive, even for the ’80s, but that wasn’t what Yamaha was going for. This was almost the exact same engine as in the TW200, and Yamaha just wanted to make a non-complicated, tough and cheap four-stroke.

Fitted with knobbies, pipe and larger carb. That XT225 has been over many of the popular trails and passes in the Pitkin - Buena Vista - Aspen triangle.

Mar 30, 2014 · I wouldn't say the xt225 is the bike I'd pick for more slab than dirt but I commute on my wifes xt 100 miles a week because it is the current best option in my situation. We're taking off in the morning for mountain riding and camping and the xt is perfect for her on this trip. 150 slab, about 100 miles dirt, camping gear ...perfect for the xt.

Nov 4, 2006 · EDIT : Found a wiring diagram of an XT 225 , and there it was, a battery-activated neutral switch relay . It must be by-passed if the batt. is disconnected with the sidestand down, for the CDI to " spark" (blue/w and black/w wires, under the seat relay).
Does anyone make a big bore kit for the Yamaha XT 225?

Jun 19, 2006 · Enclosed are a few shots of the Yamaha XT-225 set up for long distance. It is has a stock speed capability of 80 mph, gets ~75 mph, weighs ~250 lbs. I upgraded the seat, added a running light, heated grips, luggage rack, panier bags, 12v hardwire gps, Kenda 761 tires, carry an additional 1.75 gal for a total of 4 gal fuel, and wind screen. Keith

Apr 5, 2008 · The five-speed vs. six-speed issue is possibly not quite as big an advantage for the 225 as some people think. What Yamaha has done with the new 250 is spread the gears out farther, so there is more of a gap between each gear. The 250 isn't quite as wide from low to high as the 225, but it's close.
