This year the 23 rd Annual Rouge River Water Festival will be held September 16th-19th, 2025. Registration is free and open to 4 th and 5 th grade classes in the Rouge River Watershed. Registration for this year’s festival will open in May of 2025.

The Rouge River was long known as one of the most polluted rivers in the United States. A mid-1980s tipping point awakened watershed residents that raw sewage was overwhelming their river. Today, people have overcome apathy and are working together to bring their river back to life.
The Rouge River Water Festival at Cranbrook Institute of Science, held September 14-16, was a rousing success.
