Nov 9, 2008 · The engine is as stand up as a 4.0 Jeep engine. They are dependable as an SKS, and just about as many moving parts. Drop either in the mud, pick 'em up and they both will go like hell. Some of the SKS parts are interchangeable with the KLR....you can always tell a KLR that has SKS parts on it...the SKS uses better metals.

MOST road bikes are better than the KLR on the highway, but my 08 KLR was pretty comfy cruising along at 70 for what it is. I would NEVER buy a KLR if I was just going to be riding pavement. I did buy one to go exploring off road and be able ride the highways.
